Found just off the road leading to Pic Paradis, St. Martin’s highest peak, Loteria farm is a great place to discover more about the island’s colonial past. This plantation once produced sugar cane for Europe, and now is the center of St. Martin’s ecotourism community. You can hike for an hour through the forest to reach an amazing view of the blue Caribbean Sear. There is a restaurant and bar at Loterie Farm, which makes it a convenient half-day trip.
St. Martin’s Butterfly Farm is home to hundreds of rare and beautiful butterflies that transform the farm into a tranquil ballet of beauty. The Butterfly Farm is surrounded by beautifully landscaped grounds, and quiet gardens, waterfall and ponds filled with colorful koi. The farm does informative guided tours, and is great fun also for kids. Located in the Le Galion area.
St. Maarten Park Zoo
Home to over 80 species of exotic mammals, reptiles and birds, the St. Maarten Park Zoo is another wonderful child-friendly activity on the island of St. Martin. The park is small, but includes a playground for kids, and is located opposite Philipsburg at the northern edge of the Great Salt Pond.
Check out 18 hole championship golf at Mullet Bay on Dutch Sint Maarten. It’s a beautiful course, surrounded by water and palm trees, and the course itself is is located between the Simpson Bay Lagoon and the Caribbean sea. National and international tournaments are organized on a regular basis.
