An easy 3.5 hour flight from New York and only 2.5 hours from Miami, St. Martin is the smallest island that is an overseas territory of two countries. The French side of the island is located to the north where the capital city is Marigot. Sint Maarten, the Dutch side, is located to the south with the capital city of Philipsburg.
Once you arrive on St. Martin, there are a number of ways to get around. The most convenient is to rent a car, and there are a number of rental car agencies at Julianna Airport. While renting a car gives you the freedom to come and go as you please, public transportation is also available.
The French side is recognized for its fine cuisine, secluded beach areas and laid back vibe. The popular restaurants on the French side of the island cover the full spectrum of cuisine, but features a concentration of European cuisine.
Day Trips & Excursions
The island boasts almost 40 beaches, plus a number of bays that make ideal venues for water sports, swimming and snorkeling. From scuba diving and fishing to world-class sailing and peaceful picnic sails, St. Martin is a playground for all types of excursions and experiences.
Visitors frequently include day trips to nearby Anguilla, St Barths, Tintamarre, Pinel, in additon to exploring the varied scenery of St Martin with island tours, sunset cruises and sunset dinner cruises.
On the Dutch side US Dollars and Guilders are common currency, whereas on French side Euros are accepted as are US Dollars. All restaurants and shops will accept US dollars.
